Daylight Saving Time 2013: When to Set Your Clocks?

Image
In the United States where a one-hour shift occurs at 02:00 local time, in spring the clock jumps forward from the last moment of 01:59 standard time to 03:00 DST and that day has 23 hours, whereas in autumn the clock jumps backward from the last moment of 01:59 DST to 01:00 standard time, repeating that hour, and that day has 25 hours. A digital display of local time does not read 02:00 exactly at the shift to summertime, but instead jumps from 01:59:59.9 forward to 03:00:00.0. In the European Union, on the other hand, since the shift occurs at 01:00 UTC, the autumn shift happens an hour later than the spring shift, local time. Clock shifts are usually scheduled near a weekend midnight to lessen disruption to weekday schedules. A one-hour shift is customary, but Australia's Lord Howe Island uses a half-hour shift. [ 37 ] Twenty-minute and two-hour shifts have been used in the past. Coordination strategies differ when adjacent time zones shift clocks. The Europea

Gas leak poses no risk to public health -- KOC

KUWAIT, Oct 17 (KUNA) -- Board Chairman and Managing Director of Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) Sami Al-Rashid said Wednesday evening there is no hazard to public health from the gas leak which resulted from a drilling operation in north Kuwait earlier today. "The concentration of hydrogen sulfide gas in the leakage is too low to cause any harm. Only a high concentration of this gas could pose risk to health," Al-Rashid said in statements to KUNA. "KOC's technical teams are trying to burn the hydrogen sulfide emitting from the oil well to prevent the gas from mixing with the air pursuant to the safety regulations," he pointed out. While residents of the nearby Al-Rawdatain neighborhood are evacuated as a precaution, other teams from KOC were deployed in several parts of the country to detect the concentration rate of the gas, he added. Al-Rashid made the comments to allay the concerns about the strange smell which spread in the country this afte

Kuwait Gas leak Al-Rawdatain

A gas leak took place while drilling an oil well wednesday at the Al-Rawdhatain oilfield, as that the pungent and repulsive smell of hydrogen sulfide reached as far as Kuwaiti City and can feel the smell in ahmadi also. low-level exposure may result in fatigue , loss of appetite, headaches , irritability, poor memory, and dizziness . Hydrogen sulfide ( British English : hydrogen sulphide ) is the chemical compound with the formula H 2 S . It is a colorless, very poisonous, flammable gas with the characteristic foul odor of rotten eggs . Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic and flammable gas ( flammable range : 4.3–46%). Being heavier than air, it tends to accumulate at the bottom of poorly ventilated spaces. Although very pungent at first, it quickly deadens the sense of smell, so potential victims may be unaware of its presence until it is too late. VHS: a viral disease of young fishes

VHS: a vesceroptropic disease of young fishes An acute to chronic vesceroptropic disease of young (fingerling to yearling) rainbow trout at 10 0 C or lower. Also in adult trouts and salmonids, but not usual. Etiology: VHSV (Viral Haemorrhagic Septicemia Virus) Viral characteristics: Bullet-shaped rhabdovirus, enveloped. Length- 180 nm, width- 70-85 nm, apical end rounded, other end flat. ss RNA, replication in cytoplasm. Sensitive to lipid solvents, detergents and proteolytic enzymes. Distribution: Trouts farms in European countries: Denmark, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Spain (not in UK and USA). Signs and pathology: Acute: Poor feeding. High mortality. Dark skin, exophthalmia. Pale gills, anaemia. Widespread internal haemorrhages in skeletal muscles and viscera. Hyperemic and swollen kidney and liver. Empty intestine. Hemorrhages in muscle and kidney. Focal necrosis in liver. Chronic: Low mortality. Dark skin. Exophthalmia.

Do You Know? Fish facts

Do You Know? (Fisheries Facts) Blue wheal is the largest animal of the world reaching up to 10 m. The oarfish ( Regalecus glesne ) is the world’s largest teleost, reaching lengths of 8 m to as much as 12 m. Whole specimen are rare. Whale shark is the largest fish. Most sharks are harmless- at least to humans. Nevertheless, 25 species of sharks are known to have attacked humans, and at least 12 more are suspected of doing so. Three are particularly dangerous- the great white, tiger and bull sharks. Shark jaws display triangular teeth and rows of spears. Each tooth has even small teeth along its edges. It has been estimated that a tiger shark may grow and discard 24,000 teeth in a 10 year period! The whale shark ( Rhiniadon typus ) usually feed by staining plankton from huge mouthfuls of water. It has probably evolved a huge mouth and lost the large teeth of most other sharks not to avoid competition with other sharks but as a specialization for plankton feeding. Pois
